Today I was saddened to learn that a wonderful man had passed away on December 5th.
Jim Rohn was a legend in personal development and one of, if not the finest business philosophers to ever walk the earth.
His style was unique to him. His material was copied and used by many other speakers who came after him, including Anthony Robbins.
While there have been many people in my life who have influenced me in many ways – it’s the words of Jim Rohn which have had the most lasting effect on my life.
I was introduced to Jim’s work in 2003. I started with Jim’s incredible audio presentation ‘The Art of Exceptional Living’. I must have listened to those 6 CD’s a hundred times each. I was completely moved and inspired.
Jim was a huge advocate of ‘journaling’. I had always loved to write and journal throughout my life, however listening to Jim’s thoughts on the importance of journaling and some new techniques really made my writings not only more of a true reflection on my life but a major source of learning for myself and possibly for my children later in my life. One of Jim’s famous quotes goes something like this “Leave something of true value when you pass. Leave a treasure of your life. Your photos and your journals. They will be much, much more valuable to your loved ones than your couch!”
From there I purchased just about everything else I could get my hands on from Jim. His books, audio presentations and video persentations. Then in 2005 I wrote a letter to Jim just briefly thanking him for his wisdom and for the wonderful material which had made such an impression on me that I used the material to make major changes in my life. I had no reason to believe that Jim would ever see the letter as his schedule included lectures and presentations all over the world. About a month or two later I received a copy of Jim’s leather bound book, ‘Leading an Inspired Life’. Jim inscribed something short to me inside and I can tell you, there was just ‘something’ magical the moment I opened that package and took out that book. I just meant so much and still does to this day.
I’ve used Jim’s ideas on personal philosophy and Jim’s ‘call to action’ throughout my life these past years. Both in my personal life and in the development and growth of my business, Boogie Street Guitars.
I could not suggest more strongly that if you are reading this and you have not been touched by Jim Rohn’s work, you owe it to yourself to pickup up a book by Jim or listen to one of his audio programs or watch one of his video presentations.
It’s almost impossible to suggest one particular piece of Jim’s work however the one piece of recorded work of Jim’s which made the biggest impact on me I believe was Jim’s 5 hour video lecture, recorded in 1992 called “How to have your best year ever”. It’s on 1 DVD and it’s a pretty simple, straight forward and direct presentation. It’s classic Jim at his very best.
Below is a link to Jim’s online store where all his material is available. I’m not an affiliate or connected in any way with Jim Rohn International. I’m not profiting off this link in any way. I only provide it as I feel compelled to pass along the gift of Jim’s work to anyone who may want to explore good, solid personal development material. If you want to get a taste of Jim’s style and content, I’m sure you can find snippets of Jim’s videos on youtube and by searching for Jim Rohn on Google.
